Christmas Eve Prayer
Bidding prayer

The prayer should be prayed slowly.  At the underlined sentences pause 15 seconds for the congregation to pray silently and meditatively.  If you rush this time the prayer will not accomplish the spirit for which it is written.

O Thou who wast born while shepherds watched their flocks by night

and angels sang songs of praise and peace ...

We bow before thee on this Christmas eve,
asking thee to fill our hearts with those same feelings.

Long ago the wise men rode their camels to the stable

following a star prepared by you to direct them.

By following your directions they accomplished their task

... reached their goal.

Hear us, as we breathe before thee our need for spiritual goals
which will produce evidence of Christ's existence among us...

Dark were the days when Herod sat upon his throne in Palestine.

Human Beings were struggling for position and domination over each other.

Nation was fighting nation.

The Prince of Peace came teaching a new way.

Hear our prayers for the day of peace ...
Now open the doors of our hearts that
we may momentarily receive your love.

Turn on in each of us that light that never fails.

May we join the saints of all times in acknowledging thee as King,

and Lord ...until at last peace shall reign upon the earth,

and goodwill dominates the hearts of all human beings.

We pray through Jesus the Christ our Lord, who hast taught us to pray.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is in the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever. Amen.
